    Lifting too heavy

    in Training

Evening all. I’m after some opinions or maybe some insight into others‘ experiences. I’m 29 and have been training for around 6 years. Im sure we’ve all fallen into the trap of lifting “too heavy”, chasing load, losing connection with muscles etc. This is something I’ve kept in mind my whole training life but never really acted on or actively avoided with much intent, always slipping back into lifting heavy again. I’ve always found the body parts that grow the best are those I have had the best internal connections with (my legs), hence why I have (in my opinion) pretty piss poor chest and back development. So, for the last few weeks I’ve dropped loaded weight fairly considerably in favour of improving my connections and hopefully targeting muscles better, which has felt great. Its easy to keep chucking more weight on in favour of progressing my logbook, but is there really any point in doing that if I’m losing tension? I guess what I’m looking for here is some reassurance that I’m doing the right thing? Or maybe some guidance from people who have gone through a similar process or had a similar experience themselves.

    Thankyou for reading!

    Alex

Hi mate , yeah i get the while still wanting that connection. But losing that connection doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not recruiting tissue. It’s nice to feel the the mind muscle connection yeah I agree but to some degree it isn’t the end all or be all. Keep progressing. keep adding load. Watch yourself gain new tissue. if you’re taking check in photos and can’t see progrsss in the given muscle you’re trying to grow then you’ll no to maybe switch to a different movement u “feel” better bro. Just my opinion pal 👍🏼 Keep smashing it my dude
